Shamai K. Leibowitz is an Israeli human rights lawyer who has defended cases before the High Court. He is an Orthodox Jew and former tank runner in the Israel Defense Force and part of a group of soldiers who have refused to serve in the Occupied Territories. He subsequently uncovered documents showing illegal and unconstitutional acts, went to the press and then pled guilty to violating the Espionage Act. He has since pointed out the similarity between his whistleblowing and that of Edward Snowden.
