Pierre Vidal-Naquet exposed the systematic use of torture by the French government in Algeria and went on to continue his activism both in supporting the worker-student events of May 1968 and subsequent human rights campaigns including the rights of prisoners and of Palestinians. As a professor of history, he was scholarship was first centered the Ancient Greek world. He also refuted the claims of Robert Faurisson, who denied the existence of the Nazi concentration camps.
