Paul Siegel (1916-2004) was an internationally known authority on the role of Christian thought in Shakespeare’s plays. A Marxist all of his adult life, Siegel was a teacher and author of several books, including The Meek and the Militant: Religion and Power Across the World, The Gathering Storm: Shakespeare’s English and Roman History Plays: A Marxist Analysis, The Great Reversal: Politics and Art in Solzhenitsyn, Revolution and the 20th-Century Novel and His Infinite Variety: Major Shakespearean Criticism Since Johnson.
