The old series of Against the Current was published between 1980 and 1985 when it was folded into the newly founded Against the Current, which is published by Solidarity and began in January-February 1986.
The old series was to play a catalyzing role in the development of a theory and strategy for revolution in America being the central question. The magazine hoped to “place special emphasis on the specific character of American capitalist development and, above all, on the evolution of the working class — how that evolution shapes the current practice as well as the intervention of socialists.”
