Mumia Abu-Jamal is a political activist and journalist who was convicted of murder and sentenced to death for 1982 murder of a Philadelphia police officer. A member of the Black Panther Party, he has maintained his innocence. His death penalty sentence was overturned by a federal court so he is serving life imprisonment without parole. Even as prison authorities deny him the medical help he needs, he has continued his journalism, shining light on both the prison-industrial complex and the U.S. empire.
