James Baldwin (1924-1987) was a writer and civil rights activist. His novels include Go Tell It on the Mountain (1953), Giovanni’s Room (1956), Another Country (1962) and Tell Me How Long the Trains Been Gone (1968). His best-known non-fiction includes Notes of a Native Son, Fire Next Time and No Name in the Street.
