Israel Shahak, a native of Poland, survived a Nazi concentration camp and went to Palestine at the end of World War II. For over 30 years he campaigned for civil and human rights in Israel. After his retirement from Hebrew University, where he taught organic chemistry, he wrote Jewish History, Jewish Religion: The Weight of three Thousand Years and Open Secrets
