Ingrid Washinawatok was a member of the Menominee Nation of upper Wisconsin and coordinated the Indigenous Women’s Network. While on a mission to help the U’wa tribe in Colombia set up a school system, she was one of three Americans kidnapped and executed in the remote highlands in 1999 by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebels.
