Hunter Gray (John R. Salter, Jr.) is the author of Jackson, Mississippi: An American Chronicle of Struggle and Schism. He taught sociology at Mississippi’s Tougaloo College and was a veteran of the civil rights movement in both Jackson and Chicago. He died in 2019.
