Hisham Ahmed taught in the Department of Politics at St. Mary’s College of California. He was an expert on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the dynamics of terrorism. He was the author of, or a contributor to, seven books, including Ibrahim Abu-Lughod: Resistance, Exile and Return and From Religious Salvation to Political Transformation: The Rise of Hamas in Palestinian Society. Blind from birth, he taught political science at Birzeit University in Palestine (1994-2006) but once the Israeli state constructed new roadblocks he found it impossible to navigate from his home, a five-minute walk from the university. He died 2019 at age 56, after a difficult struggle with colon cancer. His obituary can be found at https://solidarity-us.org/atc/203/hisham-h-amed/.
