Grant Farred, a native of South Africa, is a professor of Africana Studies and English at Cornell University. He served as editor of South Atlantic Quarterly and edited Rethinking CLR James (1996). He has written several books, including What’s My Name? Black Vernacular Intellectual (2003) an Midfielder’s Moment: Coloured Literature and Culture in Contemporary South Africa (1999).
