Eugene Victor Debs

Eugene Victor Debs was a central leader of the Socialist Party in the first two decades of the 20th century. He was a labor organizer and political activist who ran five times as the party’s candidate for U.S. president, including once from prison. He was imprisoned during World War I for his antiwar position.
