Dora María Téllez was an FSLN guerilla leader who became Minister of Health in the first Sandinista government. She organized against FSLN’s lack of democratic norms and left to form an opposition party. Téllez became one of the most outspoken critics of the Ortega-Murillo regime. After the repression that followed the 2018 uprising students initially led, she was imprisoned under harsh conditions. Dora María Téllez was one of the 222 political prisoners expelled from Nicaragua in 2023.
