Andre Gunder Frank was a German-American sociologist and economic historian. In his first book, Capitalism and Underdevelopment in Latin America (1967), he developed the dependency theory, focusing on Latin America. Later he wrote and spoke more broadly about a world system in which export-oriented solutions to development were detrimental to poor countries.
