Henry A. Giroux was a professor in education and cultural studies at Penn State University but moved to McMasters University in Canada where he is a the Paulo Freire Distinguished Scholar in Critical Pedagogy. He stresses the need to make pedagogy central to politics, creating the necessary conditions for developing a substantive democracy. He is the author of several dozen books.
