Ernest Mandel was Marxist economist best known for his writings, Marxist Economic Theory and Late Capitalism. Born in Germany, he twice escaped after being arrested in the course of resistance activities during World War II. He was a popularizer of Marxist thought and a leader of the Fourth International until his death in 1995.
